Frequently Asked Questions

WE HAVE YOU COVERED

FAQ

What age should my child have their first orthodontic evaluation?

We recommend a screening by age 7 to catch any irregular growth patterns early. If treatment isn’t immediately needed, you’ll leave with a clear plan for follow-ups and growth guidance.

How long does orthodontic treatment typically take?

Treatment times vary by complexity but generally range from 12 to 24 months. Dr. Anderson will give you a personalized estimate based on your goals and needs.

Does orthodontic treatment hurt?

Some soreness is normal after adjustments or new aligner trays, but it’s mild and short-lived, kind of like a bruise. Over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods usually do the trick.

Will my dental insurance cover treatment?

We accept most major plans and verify benefits to maximize coverage. Our team will walk you through exactly what’s covered and any out-of-pocket costs.

What if I don’t have insurance?

No problem! Our flexible financing options let you spread payments over time, so you can get the smile you want without delay.

How often are adjustment or check-up appointments?

Braces and aligners require check-ins every 6–10 weeks. We’ll set a schedule that fits your calendar.

How do I care for my braces or aligners?

Braces require careful brushing and avoidance of hard or sticky foods. Aligners should be worn 20–22 hours/day and cleaned daily. Each option has their strengths and weaknesses, but we’ll give you all the tips and tools you need for success!

Are there food restrictions with braces?

To protect your brackets and wires from breakage, avoid things like sticky candies, ice, popcorn, and hard nuts. We’ll provide a full list to avoid (and some tasty alternatives)!

What if a wire pokes or a bracket breaks?

Small emergencies happen, so just give us a call when they do. We’ll either guide you through a quick at-home fix to save yourself a trip to the office, or get you in for a same-day repair.

Do you assess airway and breathing issues during treatment?

Yes, we evaluate airway health and breathing patterns as part of your comprehensive exam. While we never take a one-size-fits-all approach, identifying potential airway concerns helps us tailor your treatment plan for optimal function and comfort.

Can orthodontics help with sleep or breathing problems?

This is a hot topic in orthodontics at the moment! In some cases, studies show that properly aligned jaws and teeth can improve airflow and reduce sleep-disordered breathing. We collaborate with medical specialists as needed to ensure that any airway-focused concerns are properly diagnosed, then treated safely and tailored to your specific needs.

Do I need a retainer after treatment?

Yes, retainers keep your teeth in place. We’ll fit you with a custom retainer (and throw in a back-up set for free), then recommend a wear schedule to protect your investment.

What if I miss an appointment?

Life happens! We understand that things don’t always go as planned. Just let us know as soon as possible, and we’ll reschedule at the next convenient slot. Staying on track with your visits ensures smooth, predictable, and efficient progress.

When can I start?

We understand your time is valuable – when possible we try to provide Same Day Braces for those that wish to avoid an additional appointment and are ready to start!
